Wearing the same boring outfit to work gets old…fast! It’s easy for me to get into a routine of throwing on whatever’s clean after working a 40-60 hour work week. I don’t know about you, but picking a wrinkled pair of pants off the floor, and throwing my hair up in a messy bun to make sure I get out the door on time, doesn’t always make me feel my best. No matter your position, I was always told to dress for the job you want not the job you have. What better way to show you want to be the boss then dressing the part.
You don’t have to wear designer threads to look good, but picking items that have a higher quality will typically last longer. For staple items in my wardrobe I try to invest in better-constructed pieces because I will wear them for a longer period of time. Premium denim can cost anywhere from $150-300! But it’s worth the investment for an everyday jean that won’t fall apart easily especially if you work in a business casual environment where you can dress up a pair of jeans with your favorite blouse. I still wear a pair of skinny premium jeans that I bought five years ago.
Whereas for fashion items, like the retro flare jean trend I’m not sure I want to jump on the band wagon for, I’ll thrift a pair or find a less expensive style if I want to give the trend a try. No reason to shell out hundreds of dollars on something I’ll only wear once, and will soon move to the back of my closet as the new craze comes along.
I love fashion because its fun, and subjective. Wear whatever you want as long as you love it! And if you love what you’re wearing it will show, and best of all make you feel great inside and out. Here’s my work chic style inspiration below.
